Where are the heaviest elements formed? What part do supernovae play in recycling elements? The heavier elements are located at the inner core of the stars. In the core of the star shells of helium, carbon and oxygen burn to form heavier nuclei. The nuclear fusion produce neon, magnesium, silicon and other heavy nuclei. These elements also resides deeper down the core of the star. When stars die they go through series steps. One of step is formation of white dwarfs. Supernovae are formed when these white dwarfs explode. These new stars are heavier then the old ones. |
