Nuclear processes

What is the proton-proton chain? Where in the Sun does this take place? Is this a fusion or a fission process?

Proton-Proton chain is a fusion reaction, which produces energy when Hydrogen nuclei are combined into Helium nucleus. Proton-Proton fusion can occur if the temperature of the Proton is high enough to overcome their mutual electrostatic.
This fusion reaction takes place in the core of the sun.  Proton-Proton chain is the main source that has powered the stars including our sun.
Proton-proton chain is a fusion because this reaction takes place when hydrogen nuclei are combined into helium nucleus. It is not fission because this reaction is not splitting the nucleus of atoms.
