Inflation

What is the theory of inflation? Why does it suggest that a great deal of the energy density of the early universe was neither matter nor radiation?

Inflation theory suggests that the universe underwent a period of exponential expansion right after the Big Bang. Cosmologist Alan Guth first proposed this theoryin 1981. Today, inflation remains the best way to theoretically understand many aspects of the early Big Bang universe.
Scientists say that matter and radiation alone cannot account the present structure of our universe. There should be another component too. Scientists refer this element as dark energy which is very little known.
